Prof Biswadev Mitra
Professor Dev Mitra is Head, Clinical Research at the National Trauma Research Institute and a Consultant Emergency Physician at The Alfred Emergency and Trauma Centre.. Following completion of his Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Melbourne, he completed a Masters in Health Services Management (Monash University) and PhD on acute traumatic coagulopathy (Monash University). Dr. Mitra is a member of the Trainee Research Executive Panel for The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine and member of the Clinical Reference Group of The National Blood Authority, Australia.
Professor Mitra has extensive experience in clinical research projects, with a focus on acute trauma resuscitation using blood and blood products. Professor Mitra is extensively involved in multicentre, international collaborative research projects that include:
Identification of biomarkers associated with traumatic brain injury in the general population (the BIOBiT Study)
Pre-hospital Anti-fibrinolytics for Traumatic Coagulopathy and Haemorrhage (PATCH-Trauma) Study, an international, multi-centre randomised placebo-controlled study which seeks to address uncertainties about the safety and effectiveness of early tranexamic acid for severely injured patients treated in advanced trauma systems.
