Dr Harendra Cooray

Dr Harendra Cooray is an emergency physician currently working at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children, Colombo. He is an immediate past president of the Sri Lanka College of Emergency Physicians. He qualified with the MBBS from the All-India Institute for Medical Sciences, New Delhi in 1994 and the MD in Emergency Medicine & the Diploma in Critical Care Medicine from the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo in 2016 & 2010 respectively. Harendra has extensive clinical experience spanning 26 years of clinical practice.

He has worked in several provinces of Sri Lanka, overseas in India & Australia. He has been involved in the development of Critical Care Medicine in Sri Lanka for over a decade. He functioned as the General secretary for the Sri Lanka Society for Critical Care & Emergency Medicine from 2011 to 2012 & 2013 to 2014. He is passionate about improving the standards of care to critically ill patients and the efficiency of health care services of Emergency departments in Sri Lanka.

Harendra functions as an instructor for the following courses, Emergency Life Care (ELC), Basic Assessment & Support in Intensive Care (BASIC), Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS), & Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS).

He was a member of the expert panel representing the Covid Advocacy committee of the Sri Lanka Medical Association during the current Global pandemic.

Harendra is a devoted family man & enjoys spending quality time with Therika his very supportive wife & three adorable daughters.
